While Michigan Masonic Home continues to monitor Governor Whitmer’s progress towards opening Michigan, we remain vigilant in our efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 within our community. Earlier this week, two very important Executive Orders were drafted and implemented which gave direction to our organization as to the timing of re-opening our communities to the public.

Governor Extends Restriction for Health Care Facilities:
On May 30th, 2020, Governor Whitmer extended the provisions of EO 2020-72 through June 26th, 2020. EO 2020-108 continues restrictions on visitation and the need for screening persons entering the facility for nursing homes, adult foster care, homes for the aged, and independent living facilities. The directive also continue to require that all persons wear a mask when in public indoor venues.

Governor Moves Michigan to Phase IV, BUT Health Care Facilities remain closed to outside visitors:
On June 1, 2020, Governor Whitmer announced the relaxation of the Stay at Home orders, through Executive Order 110. Michiganders are no longer required to stay at home. Certain businesses will remain closed. Any work that is capable of being performed remotely must be performed remotely.

Retailers will be allowed to resume operations on June 4th. Stores may resume normal operations subject to capacity constraints and standards. Restaurants and bars may reopen fully on June 8th, also subject to capacity constraints and standards.

Michiganders must continue to wear face coverings when in enclosed public spaces and should continue all social distancing. Indoor social gatherings continue to be restricted up to ten persons. Outdoor social gatherings are permitted when persons maintains a six foot distance and the assembly consists of no more than 100 persons. Still closed will be theaters, gyms, non-essential personal care services, casinos, and amusement parks.

Health care facilities, residential care facilities, and congregate care facilities are NOT included in this directive.

Resident and employee safety continues to be our top priority during these challenging times. We stand united, at a safe distance.

UPDATE: It has been confirmed that a second resident has tested positive for COVID-19. We are working with our local public health department and Gratiot hospital to determine the source of the spread.

COVID-19 Response Plan Update:

COVID-19 is a global pandemic that continues to move throughout our State at a lightning speed. We understand everyone is rightfully concerned. In an effort to keep our families and community informed we are providing the following update.

Masonic Pathways experienced eleven weeks of COVID-19 free status. Based on the experience of other licensed skilled nursing facilities, this is an incredible achievement given the unprecedented challenges. I am especially grateful for our local community, amazing staff, dedicated management team, our Medical Director and our local hospital.

On Friday May 15, 2020, we received confirmation that we have our first positive case of COVID-19 within our Jack F. Sanders Health Care Center. At this time, that resident remains hospitalized. Our hearts and prayers are with those staff, families and friends affected by this unprecedented event. We continue to pray for healing and recovery of our resident.

Our COVID-19 Taskforce meets daily in order to ensure we have the necessary PPE, staffing and prevention procedures in order to combat this terrible virus. More importantly, we follow every directive from the State and local health authorities, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other government authorities on how to respond to the COVID-19 virus.

We have been and continue to take all appropriate steps to stop the spread of COVID-19 including but not limited to:
• We are currently in contact with our local public health department, Gratiot hospital and Gratiot County emergency management on implementing next steps.
• We have an “Observation Hall” that allows us to dedicate specific resources for the care of all resident returning from the local hospital and those who may be at risk.
• Visitation remains restricted.
• There is limited movement throughout the entire building among staff and residents.
• Physician visits are being completed through telemedicine.
• Residents have dedicated medical equipment.
• We have dedicated staff to the affected units.
• All staff continues vigilant infection control practices.
• Environmental cleaning and disinfection procedures are followed consistently and correctly. All of our cleaning supplies are EPA registered and are appropriate for SARS-CoV-2.
• All residents are screened every shift and as needed for respiratory illness so that quick and appropriate measures can be taken.
• Staff are actively monitored at the beginning of each shift. Everyone has been educated on how to self-monitor for symptoms. Staff are strongly encouraged to not report to work if they are ill. Ill staff are not permitted to work. All staff illnesses are monitored and tracked through our Infection Preventionist to assure it is safe for them to return to work according the CDC guidelines for health care professionals.
• Staff are practicing universal source control of personal protective equipment throughout the building, e.g. face masks, face shields or appropriate eye protection.
• Staff continue to adhere to standard and transmission-based precautions for continued infection prevention.
• We are using necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) and are preserving our current supply, while actively seeking additional PPE.

Resilience and adaptability of our residents has been unwavering. It is heartwarming to watch how our team has come together to provide compassionate care to our residents, along with grace, joy and laughter each day. The selflessness and dedication of each individual member of the Masonic Pathways team has been inspirational and beyond expression.

We understand this is a difficult time for everyone. We understand that you are concerned about your loved one. We also understand that connecting with family members is incredibly important to our residents. Family members are encouraged to connect with their loved ones through video chat, calling, texting, or other social media formats. Please know that we will contact you if your loved one is suspected of having or been diagnosed with COVID-19.

We have set up a daily hotline for families, staff and concerned community members to access information on our COVID-19 response. For more information, please call 989-968-4222 for daily COVID-19 information updates.

The entire Masonic Pathways team is very grateful for the support we are receiving from our families, residents, staff, local hospital, public health department and the central Michigan community.

Mike Logan

Prayers coming your way to heal the resident affected and that it only is that one. This is a scary time and all nursing homes are being diligent to keep everyone safe and sometimes even that's not enough. Keep up the good work! God bless you all!

You have done very well taking care of everyone and always will. I will pray for the person with the positive diagnosis and will pray that is the only positive case.

You guys have done a great job especially taking action as soon as this epidemic started! Thank you for doing your best at keeping our loved ones safe ❤️

We are all doing our best to be there for everyone during this pandemic. We know it is tough on the residents not being able to see their family but rest assured we the staff are stepping up to be like a foster family to your loved ones and making sure all needs are met. I am one of many Wellness Assistants working in the Assisted Living area making sure your family is being well. Thank you all for showing support during the pandemic. We appreciate all of you. ❤

You are doing a good job. This virus is insidious! Please know that we all are praying for all the staff and residents. I am sure that with all of your diligence you will have a handle on this quickly. Thank you for all you are doing ❤️🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽

You have done such a wonderful job keeping our residents safe. Our prayers go out to the hospitalized resident and family. Many thanks to the staff.

Thank you for clearly outlining all the precautions you are taking! It is reassuring, as resident/staff safety needs to be the top priority!

Hello katie

Today, we had the honor of sending off Frances as she begins her post-rehab journey! Frances had a few kind words to share with us as she reflected on her time at Warwick Living Center:

“When I first got here, I was in such pain, feeling like it would take forever to walk without such discomfort. Thanks to all the wonderful people who have worked with me, I feel like a new person again! Before COVID-19 hit, the staff planned a lot of fun things to do here. They had to readjust the activities, but they were able to retain some of the fun things to do. The staff is second to none. They make you feel special. There are always staff members who go above and beyond their job description. It is so pretty inside Warwick, and the rooms are private and so comfortable. I loved having a private room with a private bathroom. I was impressed when I came to visit others. Now, I know from personal experience what a wonderful place Warwick is. I would recommend Warwick Living Center in a New York Minute!”
